The boho minimalist style isn’t just an aesthetic you can easily tell where it originated from. This type of boho style is a little different compared to the others. But what is it about?

The boho minimalist style combines two main aesthetics: The Boho and the minimalistic aesthetic. This expresses in clean lines and rather structured silhouettes but also popular boho elements like layering and nature-inspired elements.

As this type of boho style may be the most interesting one to get to know, I highly encourage you to read on!

Introduction

The boho minimalist style doesn’t have a long history or a definite time of origin. It rather evolved in recent years as minimalistic approaches, in general, got popular. The minimalist movement started to emerge in the mid-20th century but this wasn’t the time this style arose.

This style came as a reaction to opulent and generally fast-living fashion trends. The boho minimalist style likes to keep its balance without constant changes and overly opulent outfits and therefore offers a breath of fresh air in combination with the boho style.

As this type of boho style differs a lot from the others, you wouldn’t recognize it at first as one of the types of boho styles.

Now we will look at some key elements of the boho minimalist style.

  1. The most obvious feature this style has to offer is its minimalistic approach. This style doesn’t add unnecessary layers to its outfit nor does it wear clothes with details like laces or other things.
  2. The second minimalist thing is its neutral colors. This element is one of the most important factors when it comes to distinguishing between any other type of boho style and the boho minimalist style.
  1. As with almost any type of boho style, this one also uses mainly natural fabrics. Linen, silk, leather, and cotton are the most common materials when it comes to this style.
  2. When it comes to patterns, there aren’t lots of patterns. You may find some geometrical or ethnic patterns but they are used very carefully and are rather not on the main piece of the outfit.
  1. One thing this style has in common with most types of classic styles is its functionality. The boho minimalist style focuses a lot on functionality in terms of rather tight clothes and clean lines as its main criteria when choosing clothes.
  2. Lastly, we come to accessories. This style also likes to keep it rather simple here too. Necklaces, watches, bags, hats, and scarves can all be part of this style as long as they look clean and aren’t opulent with lots of details and so on.

Having these key elements in mind, we will now look at some typical clothes when it comes to the boho minimalist style.

How to style the boho minimalist style

Now that we’ve got our key elements and a list of clothes this style features, we can now talk about how to style your boho minimalist outfits.

As with most types of boho styles, we will need a base item at first. Upon that, we can start implementing other garments. As we’ve discussed earlier, neutral colors are the way to go here. You will want to look for clothes with high quality and clean lines to keep a modern silhouette.

You can then start to incorporate more clothes into your outfit, even allowing some subtle patterns. If you want to, layering can be a great option to add texture to your outfit. Keep it simple though. You can incorporate some pieces with a rather flowy silhouette but try to mix them with some tight clothes. For more texture, some small details like a flower stitched on a blouse or according to things will look great.

For accessories, you will want to wear 3 at most! You can combine some sunglasses and a hat with a small bracelet or something similar. when you are choosing your shoes, keep in mind that they should only complement the outfit.

If you are done with creating your outfit, make sure to check if you are comfortable wearing it and if it is functional enough. The last step is to wear it with confidence.

Boho minimalistic outfit ideas

In a last step, we will now look at some outfits to give you some inspiration on what a boho minimalistic outfit looks like.

For men

For this featured outfit you will need a pair of tailored pants as a base layer. Additionally, you will want to add a striped or plain button-down shirt or a T-shirt in another neutral color

For shoes, add some sandals or sneakers as they will complement the outfit without standing out. Some loafers will also work. When it comes to accessorizing, less is more. You can add some sunglasses and a watch or a bracelet but that is all you will need.

For women

This boho minimalist outfit requires a basic unicolored T-shirt as a base layer. Optionally, you can also wear a top or a blouse. For pants, you can choose any rather tight-fitting pants. Some clean linen pants will also work though. As an additional layer, a trench coat is the perfect option.

For shoes, you can either wear sneakers or boots. If you don’t wear an additional layer, some sandals will also work. When you accessorize, again, less is more. Some subtle earrings or a bracelet will do the job here. A scarf will also work great.
